February 2024 Funding Report

We are proud to announce the outcomes of our February funding round, which resulted in a total £7.5 million in grants to 40 charitable organisations, supporting projects involving amateur sport, care for the elderly and terminal illness, care leavers, domestic abuse victims, homelessness, and medical research.

The Albert Gubay Charitable Foundation (AGCF) is committed to supporting charities serving disadvantaged/in-need communities in England and Wales, the Isle of Man, and the Republic of Ireland, ensuring that valuable projects are provided with funding to maintain their meaningful work.

Examples of charities and projects that we have supported in this funding round:

AGCF grants funds to registered medical research charities, and we are proud to announce our support of Tommy’s.

Tommy’s is a pregnancy charity that is committed to funding pioneering research to improve the understanding and prevention of complications in pregnancy. They provide expert midwifery support to parents throughout each stage of pregnancy, advocating for all who have lost babies during or immediately following pregnancy.

This project will fund research into Chronic Histiocytic Intervillositis (CHI), a rare and serious condition, thought to be a form of maternal immune system rejection of the placenta. CHI can cause miscarriage and stillbirth and has a strong link with foetal growth restriction. It has a high mortality rate – more than half of affected babies die – and affects around 6 in every 10,000 pregnancies (just over 400 births each year).

This project will find out more about CHI so that clinicians can better diagnose the condition and develop potential treatments, enabling the early identification of women at risk and the development of new treatments.

The Hive, operated by Wirral Youth Zone, is a space for young people providing sports facilities, music rooms, recording suites, and arts studios.

Hiveability is The Hive’s Sunday sports session specifically for young people aged 8-25 with additional needs. The project recognises the barriers to participation preventing young people with additional needs from accessing fully inclusive sports and works to level the playing field. The young people who attend Hiveability range from those with physical and learning disabilities to those experiencing a range of complex issues such as autism, anxiety disorders and ADHD.

Hope Mill Theatre School

AGCF is proud to announce support for Hope Mill Theatre School with The Factory of Creativity – introducing children to theatre and performance with the opportunity to learn and train with skilled industry professionals in a high-quality theatre environment.

Participants will have regular opportunities to perform on Hope Mill Theatre’s main stage and to watch live performances and meet the cast and crew, so that they see first-hand the many opportunities for careers in the performing arts, both on stage and behind the scenes, that are open to them. This project’s aim is that young people will discover new talents and interest in a creative pathway, as well as developing social and personal skills and confidence.
