December 2023 Funding Report

We are proud to announce the outcomes of our December funding round, which resulted in a total £12.5 million in grants to over 20 charitable organisations, supporting projects involving amateur sport, care for the elderly and terminal illness, care leavers, domestic abuse victims, ex-offenders, homelessness, medical research, and modern slavery.

The Albert Gubay Charitable Foundation is committed to supporting charities serving disadvantaged/in-need communities in England and Wales, the Isle of Man, and the Republic of Ireland, ensuring that valuable projects are provided with funding to maintain their meaningful work.

Examples of charities and projects that we have supported in this funding round:

SHAPE

The Albert Gubay Charitable Foundation is delighted to announce grants awarded in a recent round of funding, including SHAPE: homeless support for young women.

SHAPE operates a women’s hostel in Birmingham and provides support for women who are fleeing domestic abuse. Their support staff and volunteers provide one-to-one, round-the-clock support that aims to help the young women recover, improve their mental health and wellbeing, and build the confidence, resilience, and independent living skills they will need to move on to live successful, independent lives.

The Albert Gubay Charitable Foundation is proud to support SHAPE with £40,000.

Manchester Carers Forum

The Albert Gubay Charitable Foundation is delighted to announce grants awarded in a recent round of funding, including Manchester Carers Forum.

Directed by carers themselves to provide the support which will have the greatest positive impact on personal wellbeing, the project supports any adult carer living in Greater Manchester.

Their goal is to help reduce social isolation and the inequalities faced by carers as a result of their responsibilities. As well as social activities, the project includes advocacy training for carers so that they understand their rights and can take action to receive the support they are entitled to.

The Albert Gubay Charitable Foundation is proud to support Manchester Carers Forum with £6,900.

Success Club

The Albert Gubay Charitable Foundation is delighted to announce grants awarded in a recent round of funding, including Success Club’s ‘Games Changers’ project, empowering young people through sports and mentoring.

Success Club works to prevent vulnerable young people from becoming involved in youth crime by encouraging long-term sporting involvement, thereby reducing school exclusions and ensuring those individuals remain in a stable learning environment. Operating in Enfield, London, the programme teaches discipline, focus, and the value of hard work and is complemented by mentoring.

Down Syndrome Cheshire

The Albert Gubay Charitable Foundation is delighted to announce grants awarded in a recent round of funding, including Down Syndrome Cheshire.

DS Cheshire works to facilitate employment training and job opportunities for individuals living with Down Syndrome in Northwich, Cheshire, by breaking down barriers and providing training, skills development, and work experience.
They reach out to local businesses, promote the positive contribution that people with learning disabilities can bring, and find employment opportunities for the people they support. They also assist some individuals in developing their own enterprises.

The Albert Gubay Charitable Foundation is proud to support Down Syndrome Cheshire with £60,000.

Down Syndrome Cheshire

St Patrick’s Church, Hardybutts

The Albert Gubay Charitable Foundation is delighted to announce grants awarded in a recent round of funding, including St Patrick’s Church, in the Diocese of Liverpool.

The building of St Patrick’s Church currently serves as a much-utilised hub for the local community. The building is the spiritual home of a strong congregation, most of whom live in poverty or experience some form of hardship and disadvantage.

The Church has developed relationships with local councillors to hold events that benefit all members of the local community; reaching out to those especially who may not necessarily be members of the Catholic Faith. They host a much-used local food bank and hold regular donations and appeals to reach out to those in greatest need. Parishioners are keen to extend links with a range of local charities, particularly with ‘Happy Smiles: Supporting Wigan Adults and Children with Disabilities’ for which a number of parishioners hold regular fundraisers and complete marathons in aid of.

The Albert Gubay Charitable Foundation is proud to support St Patrick’s Church with £498,456 toward the necessary repairs to the church building, ensuring that this valuable work in the community of Wigan can continue to grow.
